Incentives for Health Professionals

Young is serviced by a modern acute care hospital (opened in 2005) which is part of the Young Health Service incorporating Young District Hospital, Mercy Care Centre and Young Community Health Service. Young offers health professionals a supportive, collegial working environment.

The Young Shire is classified as MMM4 under the Department of Health’s new “Modified Monash Model” classification system that categorises areas according to both geographical remoteness and town size. The system was developed to recognise the challenges in attracting health workers to more remote and smaller communities. Medical professionals moving from major city areas to Young may be entitled to relocation and retention benefits from the General Practice Rural Incentives Program.

As an emerging regional centre, Young Shire will strengthen its role in the next 10 years with improved services, facilities and a strong economic base, while preserving the country lifestyle which residents enjoy.

Young has a high degree of liveability with very affordable house prices, mortgage and rental costs when compared to the NSW State average. The Young Shire has a unique and interesting history, and residents and visitors can enjoy the diverse range of sporting, recreation and cultural facilities, as well as its 34 parks, 3 gardens and 9 reserves.

One of the features of the town is the Chinese Tribute Garden, a recognised and significant tourist attraction which greets thousands of visitors to the region annually.

Young’s Golf Course is another major drawcard for the town and has been described as one of the best country courses in NSW. The course is kept in magnificent condition through its constant water supply provided by an innovative reclaimed water scheme, and its short but challenging design will test the technique and accuracy of any golfer.
